One Mindful Tribe: Empowered Women’s Leadership for Business and Home
Through my mindfulness work with women — moms in the trenches with little ones, leaders in the business world, artists honing their crafts — I have come to appreciate that we all share similar struggles regardless of life phase or occupation. We all profit from mindful awareness, learning to be authentic, empowering ourselves and our voices, and uncovering the power to lead. Whether managing a corporation or a household, mindful leadership teaches us how to be the best possible version of ourselves — benefitting our families, our businesses, and the world.
One Mindful Tribe: Because we are all in it together.
Grab a cup of tea, read on, and learn from this wise, inspiring woman.
The lowdown:
In 1996, Nina began her career as a hair stylist, quickly became a salon manager, and then a district manager for a chain of eight salons in the Lehigh Valley, PA. Impressed by her business acumen and talent for managing multiple salons, the chains’ owners invited her to join them as part owner and manager of a chain of salons in West Palm Beach, Florida.
In 2006, she went to work on her own dream. She moved back from Florida and hit the ground running. Nina founded a successful organic hair and beauty salon in Allentown, PA. Her boutique salon, Anthony Ashley has focused on helping her clients be their beautiful best. Over the years she has grown her business from a 600 square foot salon into a beautiful 1,600 square foot full service salon with several full-time talented, educated, and passionate team members. Nina has driven 20 – 30% growth for her salon in consecutive years. Her stylists have also shown significant, consistent annual growth.
In October of 2016, Nina decided to sell her salon after eleven successful years in business and says, “It was well thought out and it was time! I am excited for my next venture in coaching and growth management. It is extremely important to me to share my experience, knowledge, and my mistakes, with other salon owners and stylists. More importantly it is my passion to inspire and encourage others to grow not only professionally, but personally.”
I would say my strengths are:
I am very loyal, I am a strong leader, I think I’m pretty funny, I’m a hard worker, and I’m kind. I love to help people. I love to inspire people. I also believe in doing the right thing no matter what!
What advice would you give to your younger self/someone just starting out?
My advice would be listen to yourself, stay true to your beliefs, and don’t ever change who you are to please other people! I feel like when we are younger it’s so easy to fall into the trap of being a people pleaser. It has taken me until I was in my 30’s to figure out that the only one who suffers from being a yes person is you! It’s totally ok to say no. Actually it’s healthy!
What would your favorite day look like?
My favorite day would be spending time with my family and our dogs at the beach! I love the water! It calms my soul. Of course, I’d have done yoga and had some great vegetarian food, too.
What does your future self want you to remember/know?
Slow down and enjoy each moment, before your life just keeps passing you by. I don’t want you to look back and feel like you just went through life so quickly without being present. You don’t get a do-over. You have one chance to live the life you dream of. So do it now and enjoy every single moment.
